Research on stability of surrounding rock mass and supporting technology for gob-side roadway with fully mechanized top coal caving in thick coal seam

Abstract: In order to sustain the surrounding rock mass stability for strong mining-induced gob-side roadway in thick coal seam, the failure mechanism was investigated by a case study with serious floor heaven, large surrounding rock mass deformation, supporting fatigue in Tashan coal mine. The observation results indicate the strong mining-induced pressure dominantly caused the floor heaven and the supporting fatigue, poor bearing capacity of the coal roof induced the large surrounding rock mass deformation. The supporting technology with releasing concentrated stress in floor and totally using cables in roof and upper corner was tested in the roadway. The test results proved this supporting technology has the good performance on enhancement of supporting stability and decrease of floor heaven and sidewall deformation by 250mm and 100mm, respectively.
